DOE/NSF Faculty-Student Teams (FaST) Program

The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE), in collaboration with the National Science Foundation (NSF), funds 10-week summer research experiences for college/university faculty members who are teamed with two fully-enrolled undergraduate students from the same campus. Each FaST team is assigned to a Laboratory staff scientist or engineer in a specific area of research related to the faculty member's and students' interests and academic majors. FaST student participants also spend time in the program participating in career and academic enhancement activities designed to assist in scholastic and vocational endeavors.

The faculty member is responsible for selecting the students who participate on the research team. The students must also complete the application process for program participation.
