U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) Science Undergraduate Laboratory Internship (SULI) Program
The DOE Office of Science funds the SULI program at Pacific Northwest National Laboratory (PNNL). SULI provides 10 to 16 week summer and semester research internships to undergraduate students in the areas of science, mathematics, engineering, technology, and science policy. Each student is assigned to a Laboratory staff scientist in a specific area of research related to the student's interests and academic major.
A series of educational enrichment and social activities are provided to enhance the internship experience. The SULI program takes place year-round.
The SULI program is designed to:
- Provide a diverse group of highly motivated undergraduate students with direct access to laboratory equipment, facilities and staff through research experiences that are not generally available on college/university campuses.
- Allow selected undergraduate students to collaborate with laboratory staff in ways that contribute to laboratory research programs and at the same time provide the students with educational experiences that encourage them to study and pursue careers in fields of interest to the DOE.
- Attract a large number of eligible applicants that are varied in gender, ethnicity, and economic backgrounds.
Program Duration: 10 weeks in the Summer, 12-16 weeks during fall or spring semesters
Summer Program: June to August
Salary: $400/week
Housing Per Diem: $100/week for those who live more than 50 miles away one-way from PNNL
Travel: Participants who live more than 50 miles away one-way from PNNL are eligible for a limited travel reimbursement.
Housing: Multiple bedroom suites, studio and one bedroom apartments available on-site at the Guest House at PNNL.
