DOE Mickey Leland Energy Fellowships (MLEF) Program
The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) Office of Fossil Energy Mickey Leland Energy Fellowship (MLEF) Program at Pacific Northwest National Laboratory provides a 10-week summer research internship to undergraduate and graduate women and underrepresented minority students. Each student is assigned to a work with a Laboratory staff scientist in a specific area of research related to the student's interest in an academic major specifically in the areas of mathematics, sciences, engineering and technology.
The MLEF program uses Information, Inc. (Info Inc.) as the fiscal agent for the program, and Info Inc. coordinates all students' appointments, travel and orientation.
The MLEF is designed to:
- Provide professional experience and opportunities for personal growth in mentoring, leadership training and work experience with energy industry partners and DOE National Laboratories,
- Increase student marketability to consider future employment with the Federal Government upon graduation,
- Enhance student knowledge and gain hands-on experience for career opportunities, and
- Increase awareness in math, science, and engineering, work along side world class scientists/researchers and work with state-of-the-art equipment.
