PNNL Alternate Sponsored Fellowships (ASF) for Students, Faculty, and Visiting Scientists

The Office of Science and Engineering Education (SEE) manages fellowship opportunities at Pacific Northwest National Laboratory (PNNL) for college-level students, postdocs, faculty and visiting scientists (from government/industry) who are receiving their salary, stipend, scholarship, or some form of payment from another entity throughout the duration of their fellowship at PNNL. This could include money from the visitor's home university or agency, funding from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS), the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE), the National Science Foundation (NSF), the Oak Ridge Institute for Science and Education, or any other legitimate funding agent approved by SEE. Fellows in the ASF program may be reimbursed for expenses (limited lodging, airfare, etc.) and are not considered employees of PNNL, Battelle, or DOE during their fellowship.

ASF fellowships are set up on a one-to-one basis between the PNNL mentor and ASF fellow, this is not a program that students/faculty apply for unless they have already identified a PNNL host/mentor.

Current Participants
Eighteen is the minimum age for participation regardless of the individual's education level. Fellows must be receiving salary or stipend funding from their home institution or other funding source.

Additional Requirements
All fellows are required to have health insurance during their appointment to be granted access to PNNL facilities. PNNL does not provide health insurance benefits, nor are fellows able to purchase medical insurance through PNNL.

Program Duration: Twelve (12) months.

Reimbursements: Reimbursements for lodging, airfare and rental car may be provided by PNNL but is at the discretion of the PNNL host/mentor.

Housing: Fellows must make their own housing arrangements, however, SEE has ample resources to assist fellows with accomplishing this task. PNNL's on-site dormitory, the Guest House, is extremely well-suited for visitors, and is located within walking distance of most PNNL facilities. SEE also maintains a list of private homes who offer room and board arrangements and has information on local apartments for rent.
