High School Student Research Intern (HS SRI) Program

The High School Student Research Intern (HS SRI) Program is a research-based experience for senior-level high school students interested in preparing for careers in science, mathematics, engineering, and technology. The program provides academic year career development experiences and is designed for students attending schools in and/or near the Tri-Cities. HS SRI students are hourly employees.

In the HS SRI program, students attend regular classes in their school for one-half day. Students then work four hours a day, five days each week at the Laboratory with a scientist/mentor in a specified research area. Students also attend leadership development and career enhancement activities involving laboratory demonstrations, field trips, self-esteem building workshops and communications workshops.

Students may apply for a HS SRI appointment during their junior year in high school. Students participate in an interview process with potential mentor scientists during the Spring semester and final selections are made in late April for the subsequent academic year (mid-August to late May).

Only High School Senior students from the Tri-Cities area local schools qualify for the program.
