Student Research Apprenticeship Program (SRAP)
The SRAP is a research-based educational internship experience for students who are members of ethnic groups traditionally underrepresented in science and engineering (Hispanic, African American, or Native American in ethnic origin). The students must have an expressed interest in and potential for educational opportunities and careers in science, engineering, mathematics, or computer technology. The program is designed for students who live within daily commuting distance of the Laboratory in Richland, Washington and attend high school in Benton, Franklin or Yakima County.

In the program, students spend four days each week assigned to a scientist-mentor in a specific research area. One day each week is devoted to educational-, career-, and leadership-development activities involving laboratory demonstrations, field trips, team building and communications workshops, and career awareness.
Applicants must be at least 16 years of age at the time they begin their appointment, be a current junior or senior in high school, and be of Hispanic, African American, or Native American ethnic origin.
SRAP Appointments are given with the understanding that applicants will not have obligations or plans that will necessitate an interruption of research during the tenure of their internship; therefore, vacations cannot be approved or funded.
